The JustChords team

JustChords is developed by a small volunteer team of musicians and tech enthusiasts who combine their love for worship and music with software development.

Marek – Founder & piano‑playing dreamer

Marek is 41 years old, from Slovakia, married with three children and one dog. After turning 40, he finally fulfilled his teenage dream of playing in a band, joining a worship choir where all his children sing and beginning to play the piano. When he could not find a good chord & lyrics app without a subscription, he started building JustChords in July 2022 with zero prior mobile development experience.

He soon teamed up with Timo to “serve the Lord” together by helping musicians. Since then, Marek works on JustChords daily, focusing on features, stability and serving the growing community — even though he and Timo have never met in person and do not share a common spoken language.

Timo – Designer, bassist & stay‑at‑home dad

Timo is 41 years old, from Germany, married to a music and biology teacher and father of four children (two boys and two girls). He started with classical guitar at age 5, later shifted to chords to play in church, youth groups and camps, and spent his late teens in a punk/hard rock worship band. Today, he mainly plays bass and guitar in church about once a month and looks after his kids as a full‑time stay‑at‑home dad.

While searching for a way to organize his sheet music, he discovered JustChords. After trying other apps, he came back, joined the Discord server and quickly became deeply involved in design and UX. Timo now invests much of his free time into refining JustChords’ look and feel, collaborating with Marek via translators and long message threads on his iPhone.

Ben – Worship leader, keys player & power user

Ben is 40 years old and lives in the south of Germany. He works in cyber security and leads worship in his church. Having grown up in a Christian family, he experienced the “overhead projector and transparencies” era and has always felt a strong connection to musical worship. Today he plays keys, combining JustChords with tools like Multitracks Playback and Sunday Sounds to support modern worship setups.

In the past, Ben used SongBeamer to project lyrics for the congregation. Since JustChords introduced StageView and LyricsView, he has fully switched to JustChords for both stage and congregation displays and no longer uses SongBeamer. In his search for a chord chart app that can transpose on the fly without subscriptions, he discovered JustChords and quickly fell in love with its potential and community. Ben actively contributes ideas and feedback, helping shape JustChords as a practical stage and worship tool that aims to make life easier for both musicians and congregations.

I speak German, and I only learned English in school — but I wasn’t very diligent there either. To communicate with Marek, the Apple translator has become my best buddy. -Dear all, I did not yet say “Hello” to everyone. I am 40 years old, live in the south of Germany and, while searching for a great app that can handle chord charts (transpose on the fly) and does not bug you with subscriptions, I was greatly encouraged to take a look into JustChords — and I love it. It not only has great potential, but also dedicated developers and a community on Discord that make the whole tool wonderful.
-Now back to me: I am working in cyber security and lead worship in church. I grew up in a Christian family and always felt especially drawn to worship in the musical realm. I remember the good old days with transparencies projected on the wall and one person leading worship with a guitar. My wife teaches in church — I am very proud of her (“he who findeth a wife…”).
-I play keys and combine this with a handful of tools — currently Multitracks’ Playback app, Sunday Sounds for stunning keyboard sounds, and JustChords for stage display, as well as SongBeamer for the congregation. I have looked into ProPresenter, but this is very costly if you “only” want to display lyrics (plus chords). FreeShow seems to be becoming a budget-friendly ProPresenter alternative.

-With JustChords I am trying to make life easier for the musicians and maybe (once MIDI integration for setlists/songs/sections is available) for the congregation as well. So far I see huge dedication behind this project and I am glad I came across this solution, which truly is a solution and not just another application that can handle charts.
