Tools section

Rewrite into key

Permanently transpose the song's content to a new key.

  1. Ensure the song's key field is set correctly (the field near the note icon).
  2. Tap Rewrite into key from the menu.
  3. Select the new key.
  4. The song content is rewritten into the new key.

Note: For temporary key changes during performance, use Transpose and Capo instead. See: Song Viewer

Tidy

The Tidy function cleans up your song text to improve readability and projection quality.

When you tap Tidy, JustChords automatically:

  • Removes duplicate spaces (blanks) between words and chords
  • Removes hyphens when a word is split into two syllables because different chords appear on each part of the word

This is especially useful for:

  • Lyrics projection – Clean, hyphen-free text looks more professional on screens for the audience
  • Song Viewer – Improved readability when viewing songs on your device

For example, if your imported song contains text like "hal-[D]le-[G]lujah" with hyphens splitting the word, Tidy will clean it up to "hal[D]le[G]lujah" while preserving the chord positions.

Convert formats

The editor can convert between different chord chart formats:

Convert "Chords over lyrics"
Converts the traditional format (chords on one line, lyrics below, aligned with spaces) to JustChords ChordPro notation.
# Paste song content with "Chords over lyrics"
# Tap Convert 'Chords over Lyrics' to ChordPro in the menu
# The song is converted to JustChords notation
Chord pro directives and attributes
Converts ChordPro's directives to JustChords' attributes format.
OnSong text format to JustChords
Converts songs written in OnSong's text format to JustChords format.
{comment
Verse} to JustChords verse:
Converts verse syntax written as `{comment:Verse}` to JustChords' native syntax `Verse:`

Editor preferences

Customize the editor to match your workflow:

  • Font style – Choose between Regular or Monospaced text. Monospaced is useful for tabulature where characters need to align precisely.
  • Text size – Adjust the editor text size for better readability.
  • Quick chord bar limit – Set the number of chords shown on the quick chord bar (maximum 20).
